Description

An F1.8 135 mm prime with superb resolution, bokeh, and AF

This 135mm full-frame F1.8 lens delivers extremely narrow depth of field and breathtaking G Master bokeh. It employs a new state-of-the-art optical design which maintains high corner-to-corner resolution throughout the focus range, even at F1.8 maximum aperture, using an XA, Super ED and ED glass elements along with four XD linear focus motors to drive two focus groups for fast, quiet and precise autofocus. The new lens combines rapid autofocus (AF) acquisition with a lightweight, portable design and a variety of professional functions, making it a versatile, high-performance tool for professional portrait photographers, wedding photographers, sports photographers and a wide variety of imaging enthusiasts.

Highlights:

135mm w/ F1.8 max aperture maintains exposure and depth of field

G Master design for extraordinary sharpness and breathtaking bokeh

XA, Super ED and ED elements achieve edge-to-edge high resolution

11-blade circular aperture contributes to gorgeous bokeh

Four XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors: fast, quiet, precise focus

XA (Extreme aspherical) element for high resolution and soft bokeh

Super ED/ED (Extra-low dispersion) glass reduces flare and ghosting

Nano AR coating suppresses reflections, flare and ghosting

Manual aperture ring w/ selectable on/off click for stills or movie

Two programmable focus hold button, for multiple functions

Instant auto/manual focus selection via a AM/MF switch

Linear Response MF for precise manual focus control

2.3 feet close-focus distance with 0.25x maximum magnification

         27.5” close-focus distance with 0.25x maximum magnification

Dust and moisture resistant for robust reliability

XA and Super ED elements deliver high resolution even at F1.8

XA (extreme aspherical), Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass, and ED glass elements precisely deployed in an advanced optical design effectively correct aberration, while a floating focus system works with these aberration correction measures to ensure that the highest possible resolution is maintained right out to the image edges throughout the lens’s focus range.

Big, beautiful, natural bokeh

The extremely high surface precision of XA elements, careful control of spherical aberration at both the design and the manufacturing stages, and an 11-blade circular aperture all come together to produce spectacularly smooth, elegant G Master bokeh that maximizes the creative potential of the narrow depth of field available with this 135-mm F1.8 lens.

ED glass elements control color aberration

One Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass element and one ED glass element are strategically positioned to compensate for axial chromatic aberration that is often a problem in large-aperture telephoto lenses, achieving impressive sharpness. In addition to improving resolution, this configuration minimizes color fringing that can occur in background and foreground bokeh.

Nano AR Coating enhances flare resistance

Sony’s original Nano AR Coating technology provides an effective solution, suppressing internal reflections that can lead to flare and ghosting so that optimum contrast and clarity are achieved in the widest possible range of shooting conditions. Dual front and rear XD linear motors achieve fast, precise, quiet AF

Sony’s innovative XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors also play an important role, making it possible to maintain focus on moving portrait subjects, performers on stage, or similarly dynamic subjects with impressive speed, precision, and reliability, while also providing quiet, low-vibration AF control.

Durable, lightweight magnesium alloy

The lens barrel chassis is constructed of a durable, lightweight magnesium alloy. The hardness of the alloy helps to maintain optimum optical precision and reliability, while its lightness contributes to reduced overall weight.

Dust and moisture resistance maintains reliability in harsh environments

A dust and moisture resistant design provides the protection needed for reliable operation in challenging outdoor environments.

Excellent response and fine linear focus control

The focus ring features Linear Response MF, allowing precise control and instantaneous response when focusing manually for stills or movies. Focus responds linearly to focus ring rotation so that the camera accurately follows operator input in a way that feels similar to mechanically coupled systems.

Customizable focus hold buttons on the side and top

Customizable focus hold buttons are provided on the side and top surfaces of the lens for easy access and convenient control when shooting in horizontal or vertical orientation — and at just about any angle. AF and other functions can be assigned to the focus hold buttons as required.

Focus range limiter

A focus range limiter switch (∞–4.9 ft/6.6 ft–2.3 ft) makes it possible to limit AF operation to a predetermined range to maximize AF speed and prevent focusing on unwanted objects. The Far (∞–4.9 ft) setting covers medium, head-and-shoulders, and full-length portraits, while the Near (6.6. ft–2.3 ft) setting is ideal for close-ups of the face or extreme close-ups of details

Fluorine coated front element

The front lens surface features a fluorine coating that resists fingerprints, dust, water, oil, and other contaminants, and makes cleaning easier if any contaminants do become attached to the lens.

Easy de-click for movies

An aperture ring provides the type of immediacy and response that professionals need for both still photography and videography. An aperture click switch allows the aperture ring click stops to be engaged or disengaged as required. Engaging the click stops provides tactile feedback that can make it easier to gauge how much the ring has been adjusted by feel, and is therefore a good choice for still photography. When the click stops are disengaged the aperture ring moves smoothly and quietly, providing seamless, silent control for moviemaking.

Versatile fingertip focus control

A focus mode switch allows quick switching between AF (autofocus) and MF (manual focus) modes for smooth, interrupted shooting
